Britney Spears

Britney Spears, also known as the Pop Princess, has not only won the hearts of millions through her performances, but is also one of the most controversial celebrities of Hollywood. The nine tattoos on her body have also been subjected to controversy, for this young mother of two. First, there is the tattoo of a flowery fairy on the lower portion of her back, but many consider this an inappropriate placement.

Following the footsteps of Madonna, Britney has embraced the Kabbalah religion, which is displayed by the three kabbalah symbols located on the back of her neck, translating into the word, healing. However, many say it was done as part of an order, raising the sentiments of this sect. Some say Britney may have had this symbol removed but it has yet to be confirmed.

The image of a kanji and a flower is another tattoo of Britney’s, on the front side of her hips. At the centre of the flower is the image of the kanji which symbolises mystery, but many translate this symbol to mean strange. Her toe ring has a tattoo design of a daisy, which is on the second toe of her right foot. The right foot bears butterflies, which is simple, yet elegant. The symbolic meaning of this design is freedom. This was done in the period when Britney had a sudden upsurge, with all the paparazzi and media hovering in her personal life, which might be the reason for this particular tattoo design, depicting her inner wish to be free again from all the tribulation and triviality of a celebrity’s life.

There is a design of a star on her right hand, which is detailed, yet simple and small. On the inside of her wrist is the tattoo of a pair of dice, which is symbolic of taking all kinds of risks. The controversial tattoo of a pink cross was done on the day she shaved her head bald; done to vent her grievances and discomfort with the media, an outburst much witnessed by the rest of the world; some appalled, others pitied her.

Most of the tattoos found on Britney, can be described as an outburst from her chaotic life. She needs solace and peace back in her life again, which is the intended depiction of the tattoos.
